Hospital Bag Ideas For The Whole Family

The closer you get to your due date, the more important it is to pack a bag for you and your family to help you have a more comfortable stay at the hospital. It can be easy to overpack though, so here are some simple ideas for the whole family to help you get started.

For Mom:

Bring your own toiletries: this could include your toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, deodorant, lotion, hair ties, a brush, and especially some chapstick because the hospital air tends to be dry. Some other convenient items to have could be face wipes, and dry shampoo for those greasy moments in between your showers.

Slippers: many moms recommend bringing your own slippers. Especially the kind that have the grips on the bottom to help you when you walk around on the slippery hospital floors. Because your pregnant feet will be swollen, slippers are a comfy alternative to regular shoes.

Phone charger and extension cord: depending on how long your stay is, you will want to bring your phone charger. Many moms use their phone for entertainment to help pass the time, to contact family and keep them updated, and of course to take lots of pictures. The extension cord is a good idea because the available outlets are usually far away from the hospital beds.

Comfy clothes: along with slippers, comfy loose fitting clothes are a must for obvious reasons, especially after birth. A good must have item is our mama dress. It is very loose fitting, and makes nursing your little babe so easy and convenient. It is available for purchase on our website.

Nursing Supplies: if you plan on nursing your baby, now is the perfect time to bring your supplies. These items could be your nursing pump so the nurses can show you how to properly use it, a nursing bra, nursing pads, and a nursing blanket. On our website you can also find adorable nursing covers that double as a car seat cover.

Comfort Items: these items could range from a favorite blanket, to books, or even your favorite snacks! Anything personal that will help you have a more comfortable stay at the hospital.

For Baby:

Babies really don’t need much because the hospital provides you with most of the necessary items. Some good items to bring however are: a going home outfit, socks/hand mittens and a hat to keep them warm, diaper bag, car seat, a warm blanket/swaddle blankets, and a pacifier.

For Dad:

Like babies, dads don’t need much when it comes to a hospital bag. Some dads have reported that just having the basics like sweatshirts and sweatpants,  their phone charger, favorite snacks, and some type of entertainment, were enough to get them through the hospital stay.

Other notable items: health insurance card, wallet with cash (for vending machines), mom’s purse, a nursing pillow if you choose to use one, a nice camera, headphones to listen to music with, and a folder to keep all the important paperwork safe that you will get.

And of course, feel free to bring anything else you might need or want. This is YOUR hospital stay! Make it a great one!
